What is APU Dairy?

APU Dairy LLC (АПУ Дэйри ХХК) is a Mongolian producer of milk and dairy products based in Khan-Uul District, Ulaanbaatar. It is wholly owned by APU JSC, a Mongolian food and beverage producer with about a century of history. APU Dairy began operating in 2014, when it bought fully automated dairy processing equipment from GEA of Germany, a world leader in dairy technology. Its Tetra Pak, Ecolean and Elopak filling lines meet European Union dairy processing standards, so products leave the plant as finished, packaged goods. Today the company offers more than 70 milk and dairy products under 10 brands, delivered fresh to shops every morning. The Asian Development Bank described APU Dairy as the second-largest dairy producer in Mongolia in 2024. The company's stated aim is to protect Mongolians' health by making milk and dairy products that fit everyday needs and lifestyles, combining traditional Mongolian dairy culture with modern technology.

Where does APU Dairy's milk come from?

APU Dairy buys fresh milk from more than 1,800 herders and farmers in all four seasons. Its milk procurement office runs 34 milk collection centres in 22 soums of five aimags within a 400–450 km radius, plus four locations in Ulaanbaatar. Every morning at 06:00 the company's milk tankers leave Ulaanbaatar to collect milk from contracted herders and farmers 200–400 km away. A qualified laboratory technician travels with each tanker and tests a sample from every milk can on the spot. Milk that meets the requirements is pumped into refrigerated tanks and taken to the plant, where it is tested again in more detail before processing. From reception to finished product, the milk goes through 20 types of chemical and microbiological tests. To reduce seasonal milk shortages, APU Dairy also runs a milk cluster farm project in four soums of Töv aimag, with a 1,200-stall farm complex and more than 40 partner farmers.

Which quality and food-safety certifications does APU Dairy hold?

APU Dairy LLC holds FSSC 22000 version 6.0 food-safety certification and ISO 9001:2015 quality-management certification, both dated 2025. Before that it was certified to FSSC 22000 version 5.1 for its dairy and juice products in 2023. Under the IFOAM-based Mongolian organic standard MNS CAC/GL 32:2017, the company received a conversion-to-organic certificate in 2023 and a “100% Organic Mongolian food” certificate in 2024. Its environmental work is documented as well: APU Dairy had a greenhouse-gas inventory covering scopes 1, 2 and 3 carried out and verified under ISO 14064, and it has set emission-reduction targets. It also runs a project to treat and reuse wastewater, works to save and reuse water, and includes animal welfare in its sustainability goals.
